They watch their older siblings and try to imitate. They say they're living life "their" way, that they have no want or intention of being like us, like being like their older siblings.
But what they don't realize is, we've been there, we've done that. They don't realize the mistakes we've made and how we're trying to protect them from committing the same ones.
But guess what? We can't tell them how to live. As older siblings, as big brothers, big sisters, as role models, we can only advise.
Did we like to be told what to do, what to wear, who to hang out with at that age? No. But because we know, we can guide.
Don't try to be a parent to your cousins, siblings or other younger ones that surround you.*
Don't underestimate their intelligence- they lack experience not brain cells. Eventually they'll learn. They'll make our mistakes and some of their own.
'Tis life. Let it be.

*And remember, even if you're not biologically an older brother or sister, you still have an impact on the youth. You don't have to be Instagram famous or the Valedictorian, as long as you are alive, you have the power to make an impression on someone. But it's your decision to make it a positive one.
