Live and Let Live
I read theSkimm every morning at work and I must say, today’s main topic is something, for lack of a better word.
Copied and pasted straight from today’s email blast:
“THE STORY- Yesterday, President Trump’s administration said it should be up to the states to decide where transgender kids can pee.”
Now, I usually stay Switzerland on these issues but this debate is a heated one. I do know that everyone has their very strong opinions on the matter and I believe there is no right or wrong side. There is no way to please everyone.
The truth of the matter is we cannot overlook gender, identity. We cannot separate people because they are different than what we are “used to”. Times have changed drastically. We now have blurred lines that did not exist before and there will always be push back from those who don't want to accept these changes.
As humans we’re a little more complex, a little more complicated, than any of us would like to admit and to try to tell others how to live is unjust and unfair. I know: life is unfair, yadda, yadda. But think about being and feeling like an “outsider.” Think about being someone who is confused as to who you are and are only trying to be accepted for everything that you FEEL you are, not necessarily what people choose to view you as. It's not easy.
We're alike but we are also unique. As long as we are not harming anyone (or ourselves), we need to let each other live our lives. And if you’re “different” please know that you are not alone. We’re all quirky and weird, in our own ways. Some are just more open about it than others. And that’s ok. Know that there are many people suffering, they're afraid to be themselves because this society can be so harsh, rash and discriminatory.
TRY not to judge others if you haven’t walked in their shoes. Where there is a will there is always a way.
Let’s find the will to make way of life for ALL.
Live and let live. That’s what I have to say.
